I admit it – I’m a coffee addict. I can’t live without it, and I’m always looking for the best coffee shop in town. I love going to coffee shops because they’re great places to relax, especially when they’re kid-friendly. If I can bring my kids with me, I’m sure to come back!
I recently had the opportunity to visit Parkway Perk, enjoy great coffee, and have a conversation with Sarah, the amazing business owner. Since Sarah has been in business only about two years, we talked about the fun and challenges of starting a business because we have that in common. What we also have in common – our jobs are fun! Sarah said the best thing about her job is that it doesn’t feel like a job at all! Sarah is, naturally, an avid consumer of coffee. Her routine is to drink plenty of our favorite beverage from early in the morning until 2:00 p.m. That’s a good routine!
Sarah’s inspiration for going into the coffee business came from mission trips she took to Perú. In fact, a percentage of Parkway Perk’s sales go to support missions in Perú, which is awesome. Parkway Perk uses locally sourced beans, and she and her husband, Caleb, are passionate about supporting local businesses. That is evident when you visit Parkway Perk! There are displays of products made by local artisans throughout their shop. I enjoyed checking out all the beautiful locally-made arts and crafts.
Caleb’s background is in the food industry, which works beautifully with their business. Caleb loves to whip up amazing coffee-friendly delicacies right there in the shop. The food is as enticing as the coffee! There are kid-friendly items, too. Sarah recommends the apple cider and the ice cream for our kiddos. ☺
But the main feature is, of course, the wonderful coffee! Sarah’s personal favorite and one of her most popular coffee items is “Callie’s Mocha” – a delicious white chocolate and caramel coffee named after her daughter. You’ll also find coffees named after her other two daughters, Abi and Lillie, on the menu.
Parkway Perk is named after the street where it’s located (Parkway) and the favorite coffee shop of the Friends characters (Perk) because Sarah and Caleb are fans of the show. Sarah and Caleb are dedicated to supporting local businesses, which shows in Parkway Perk’s homegrown vibe. From supporting local artisans to sourcing beans locally, Parkway Perk is sure to make you feel right at home.
Parkway Perk is located at 272 Calhoun Station Parkway, Madison, Mississippi.
